Congratulations to Shae Parsons on being named a Borlaug Scholar through the World Food Prize organization on Thursday, February 21, at the Arkansas Youth Institute held at the University of Arkansas.Students competing in the youth institute submit a research paper addressing a problem found in one of various countries around the world and propose a solution to solving this problem. All problems/issues must also link to food insecurity. While at the institute, students present their research and solution in a round table discussion with other students and a panel of experts in an effort to help find solutions to world hunger.A small number of students will be selected from the participants to attend the Global Youth Institute of the World Food Prize in Des Moines, Iowa, next fall. Those results will be announced at the Arkansas FFA Convention held in late April. Through her participation in the Arkansas Youth Institute of the World Food Prize, Shae is now eligible to apply for USDA Wallace-Carver paid internships during the summers while she is in college. The World Food Prize youth program was established by Dr. Norman Borlaug, Nobel Peace Prize recipient and John Ruan in 1994, bringing together youth from across the world to address hunger issues.Picture: Morgan Day, WFP Director of Global Programs and Partnerships, Shae Parsons, Borlaug Scholar, Zach Andrews, AR FFA State Vice President, Dr. Jill Rucker, University of Arkansas Assistant Professor in Agricultural Leadership.
